MONITORED VISITATION

Dr. Tanya Gilbert is committed to assisting families during difficult times in their need for parent Interaction with children. Dr. Gilbert‘s Professional Supervised Visitation/Exchange/Mediation services comply with all rules and guidelines in accordance with Section 5.20 of the Family Code.

Many parents who are separating, divorcing, or in other challenging circumstances such as DCFS involvement may need help from a neutral third party in arranging for visitation with their children. Professional Supervised Visitation/Exchange Supervised is provided primarily to parents who have a court order which requires monitoring during visits with their child(ren), 100% of the interaction between parent and child is monitored by a trained professional.

Services Provided

  • Professional Supervision of Parent-Child Visits and Exchanges.

  • Conduct comprehensive intake and screening to assess the nature and degree of risk for each case.

  • Accurate and Timely Written Reports

  • Make every reasonable effort to assure the safety and welfare of the child and adults during the visitation and or exchanges.

Supervised visitation between a parent and child held at a neutral location. Supervised visitations are closely monitored by staff that may intervene when necessary to ensure appropriate parent/child interactions.  Supervised visitation may be useful in situations where the non-custodial parent:

  • is working on improving his/her parenting skills;

  • may have a drug or alcohol abuse problem;

  • has been abusive or has had trouble controlling anger; or

  • may have been involved in inappropriate sexual behavior with the child.

Monitored exchanges mean that the parents pre-arrange times at which the custodial parent/guardian brings the child to a neutral center. The visiting parent picks up the child for off-site visitation and returns him/her to the center at a pre-arranged time. Staggered pick-up and drop-off times are usually arranged so that the parents do not have to be in contact with one another. The actual exchange is monitored by staff who generally try to ease the process for the child.

What Happens in Mediation: Mediation can be a way to make decisions about your children without going to court. You and the other parent can make your own agreement on how you will take care of your children. The legal word for this agreement is "stipulation." It is also called a "parenting plan" or a "parenting agreement."

Although mediators are experienced in counseling, mediation is not counseling. A mediator meets with both parents/caregivers to assist them in agreeing on a plan that is best for their child.

A mediator's role is to:

  • Listen to both parents

  • Be neutral

  • Help you look at different options

  • Help you decide when the child will be with each parent

  • Help you decide how future decisions about your child will be made

  • Help you consider how best to protect your child's safety and welfare

  • Support you
